Opening Week

This past week was the opening week of baseball.  Baseball used to hands down be my favorite sport.  Then I moved 1000 miles away from home & it got hard to keep up with the Twins.  At 162 games a season, when your team isn't televised, it's near impossible to keep being a die hard fan.  I did try for the first year or so to keep up.  I still do enjoy going to baseball games & it's still one of my goals to go to as many MLB ballparks as possible.  Plus, to quote Moneyball "it's hard to not be romantic about baseball."  Moving on...

What I Was Up To
Monday I was woken up at 4:30 in the morning by my downstairs neighbor yelling "she's a liar" for 5 straight minutes.  I then threw a book on the floor to which she stopped yelling "she's a liar" only to yell "fuck you" twice before going back to yelling about the liar.  This continued until about 5 minutes before my alarm went off at 5.  I booked a flight home in September because ya know I'm on a spending freeze.  It's over a holiday weekend so I wanted to book it ASAP.  That's the only reason I didn't wait until the end of May to do it when I'm off my freeze.  My children were awful.  To the point where after I typed that I looked to see when the full moon is... not until the 10th.  My B day kids are always worse than my A day kids but they aren't all bad & none of them are as bad as they were Monday.  I have no idea what was going on but they were all loud, obnoxious, & didn't want to do anything.  During my conference I had to rate the writing of some of my students.  Shark week started unexpectedly so that was fun... when I got home I went for a walk around the lake & then tried to tackle more of my case study.  Got into a huge fight, talked to my cousin for an hour or two about said fight as well as details about her wedding, & went to bed.

THE BLOG: I recapped my weekend of kickball & beer.

Tuesday I did not want to get out of bed.  I reset my alarm for 5 min later even though I wanted to reset it for 30 min later.  Work went by surprisingly fast.  I got some work done on may case study, talked to my friend Bridgette a lot about the fight I had gotten into the night before, & kind of just spaced out on the day.  Bad teacher I know.  They were my good kids & were busy the whole period so they lived.  I left work early because I was having an off day so rather than sit there on my conference period I went home, took a walk, and then started working on my case study again.

THE BLOG: I shared what I got accomplished during the month of March for my spring goals.

Wednesday I did not want to get out of bed again.  I reset my alarm for 5 min later yet again.  I am so ready for the weekend.  I woke up Tuesday & thought it was Wednesday.  I woke up Wednesday & thought it was Thursday.  Except on Wednesday I spent most of the day thinking it was & then would remember a few seconds to minutes later that it was actually only Wednesday.  My kids were't too bad but I did write a kid up.  He wasn't even in my class at the time I wrote him up.  He just kept trying to come into my first period & disrupt the class & then would be roaming the halls.  I opened my case study to work on it & did get a little bit done at work but not a ton.  I had a coupon for a free Calzone at Old Chicago from March Madness that I had 3 days to use (4/4-4/6) so after work I drove up there since I hadn't been back to the grocery store anyway to get more food.  Traffic was a nightmare.  I remembered why I would normally only go there if I left work early.  Between construction & rush hour it took me an hour to get up there.  Once there I ordered my calzone, & a beer because I felt bad not having to pay for anything, & opened my case study again.  I got a call from a friend from Houston as I was getting ready to leave so we talked on the phone for a bit & decided where & when we should meet up when I'm down there next weekend.  Then it was off to the grocery store & to get gas before you guessed it, more work on my case study!

THE BLOG: I confessed my feelings on teaching, grad school, & being in one place too long.

Thursday My kids were eerily quiet.  Another teacher said the same thing about her classes.  Like my 3rd period normally talks the entire time.  Not a word was said... A part of me wanted to ask what was up but I also didn't want to question it & potentially ruin the quiet.  The Twins played at 12:10 & because my kids were silently working, & I have a Royals fan in my class, I put on the game while they worked.  Twins won.  Nothing like starting off the season 3-0.  I was going to skip class but in the end I decided to go.  Good decision because I got a free brownie, free cake pop, & found out we don't have class next week.  When I got home from class I decided to walk down to my mailbox to see if I had anything exciting.  Nope.  But since it was such a gorgeous night out I decided to go for a walk down by the lake.  When I got back my crazy British neighbor was talking to someone else about how she isn't working right now but does office work for construction companies and that maybe she should go help Trump with his wall.  I've always said that MTV missed a great opportunity by not making my life a reality show & having this lady as a neighbor just solidifies it.  I probably should've just started a low budget YouTube reality series of my life myself back in college & kept it going... A little after 9 I decided I should add some final touches to my rough draft before turning it in in time for it's 11:59 deadline.

I need your Help/Opinion.  I am driving to Houston next weekend.  It's a 4 hour drive, one way.  I usually listen to music in the car, & probably still will some of the time, but I'm looking for podcasts.  A few people have suggested S-Town but the problem is that it's marked as explicit content.  I'm trying to download them onto my school iPad & so I'm blocked from doing so.  So what are some podcasts that you've loved?  Whatever suggestions you've got I want to hear em!

    1. You do! It's so good! I saw it on Facebook so I'm not sure why all the YouTube versions are just the news talking about it or people having it recorded on their TV. I don't blame you for not wanting to get up! Have an awesome weekend!

  7. Can I just say I'm so impressed with all of the walking you are doing. It's so therapeutic and helps with stress. As for podcasts - I love Happier by Gretchen Rubin - they provide weekly tips and suggesttions on things to try to be happier. I've also started listening to Modern Love - it's a podcast that has actors and actresses read essays that have been published in the New York Times - it's truly a great podcast. Also, Side Hustle School. I've wrtieen a few posts on suggestions for podcasts. Hope your drive is good.
