In 2017 I Want To Discover

For the most part, I usually set goals or resolutions for the new year.

In 2013 I had 18 things I wanted to accomplish.  Just looking at that list I can tell you I bombed it.

In 2014 I set just 10 goals.  Smart thinking on my part.  However, I only finished 1...maybe 2.

In 2015 I took a different approach.  I had just read the book Just One Day, & I'm pretty sure that was the same time I read The Happiness Project.  I decided I wanted to live in the moment more.

Last year I set 3 goals which had sub goals...which really meant I had a shit ton of goals...fail.

So this year I'm saying screw resolutions & goals specifically for 2017.  I already have seasonal goals & my 29 by 29, both of which ultimately come from my 3rd 101 in 1001 challenge.  More things to do & accomplish is not something I need to add to my plate.  I'm going back to picking a theme.  In 2017 I want to discover.

I want to discover more of who I am.

I want to discover what I'm passionate about.

I want to discover a deeper relationship with God.

I want to discover love in every meaning of the word...family, friendship, romantic.

I want to discover the little things in life.

I want to discover the DFW area, & Texas in general.

I guess this could kind of be seen as almost the same as my living in the moment theme.  Ultimately I don't just want to exist this year.  I don't want to get into a funk.  I want to discover new things & live life to the fullest.  4 days in & this year hasn't exactly started the best.  But, I'm not going to let a few days determine my whole year.  Each day is a new chance to discover something new & to start over.

I started a bullet journal this year & the quote at the top is the first page of the journal.

  1. Goals are hard. Yours are awesome. I think I'm just planning on getting through the year without killing anyone (a goal I've had since I was in high school) and maybe I'll end up married, which could really test that killing thing. Hopefully not, but I'm setting the bar low, just in case.

  2. This might be my favourite 'word of the year' post I've read yet. I love the word Discover and your plans to incorporate it into so many different things. Looking forward to seeing how you discover the world this year! :)

  3. I LOVE this. Seriously. I was in such a funk for all of December, and discover is just the perfect word. Also, you know how I feel about the little things in life. This is such a great post.
