"Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony." - Thomas Merton
A week or so ago I was looking at different sites, including Days of the Year, trying to get ideas for blog posts in January. It was on that site that I noticed that January is "Get A Balanced Life Month." I wasn't going to pick a word for my year because I rarely do, and when I do I forget about it quickly. Balance struck a chord with me though & I decided that was exactly what I needed in life.
I am often very much an all or nothing type person. This year I want to start doing a better job at balancing what's important in my life.
When I'm in season I want to stop being ALL work & NO play.
When I'm not working/in season I want to get more accomplished for me & spend less time going out making up for lost time in season.
I want to eat healthier at home so that when I go out I don't have to worry as much.
I want to stop doing the same things all the time & step outside of my comfort zone so I can try new things.
I want to spend less time watching Netflix & more time reading and working out.
I'm hoping that by writing a few of these things out, and changing my monthly calendar quotes to quotes about balance, that I can stay motivated to do so. While January 1 is the typical start date, I am using this first week to mentally prep so I can start out next week refreshed & ready.
Do you have a word of the year? If so, what is it?
And how do you keep everything in your life balanced?
balance is key. i think it takes some time getting used to doing it but once you get the hang of it, it becomes second nature. i think the key to balance is knowing what is worth your energy and what isn't. for me, i dedicate my energy to myself, my family and friends. that's it. everything else is just noise!
ReplyDeleteBalance is a really good one, I know that feeling of being all or nothing!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on balance (and hadn't even read this yet) when I posted it as my word of the year. I think that the thing I need to learn is balance doesn't mean you have it all together, but rather that you're trying to keep a little bit of everything you love in your life. That's how I'm interpreting it, anyway.
ReplyDeleteI'm not the best with balance but I think that's okay. It's okay to keep fine tuning things and changing it up as well. Your priorities will change over time and that's a good thing
ReplyDeleteGreat goal girl. Life is all about balance :)
