I'm The Girl

**April is Poetry Month and today happens to be both Tell a Story Day and Poem In Your Pocket Day.  Originally I was going to share some stuff I had written back in high school but apparently I haven't transferred that to my new laptop yet.  So instead you get something I wrote a little over a year ago.  It not only fits the poem part but tells a story as well.  Added bonus, y'all can learn a few things you may or may not already know about me!  Happy Thursday!**

I’m the girl who doesn’t just listen to music, but feels music

I’m the girl who listens more than she talks

I’m the girl who people think is quiet until they get to know her

I’m the girl who spent hours as a child making up dance routines with a boom box in her backyard

I’m the girl who never really learned to swim

I’m the girl who spent most of her childhood playing in the dirt with trucks & tractors

I’m the girl who would buy her own special stamps to write & send letters to her cousin/best friend

I’m the girl who had to be bribed with candy in order to hold her breath under water for her swimming test

I’m the girl who still believes in everlasting love despite being jaded

I’m the girl who used to wear knee high socks with shorts because she thought it was cool

I’m the girl who used to try to start nature clubs & participate in junior ranger activities on camping trips with her cousin

I’m the girl who always puts others’ needs before her own

I’m the girl who likes to plan things…but also loves spontaneity

I’m the girl who didn’t kiss a boy until she was 16

I’m the girl who has been in love with 4 different men

I’m the girl who loves to write

I’m the girl who loves to dream

I’m the girl who learned to ride a two-wheel bike down a long dirt driveway

I’m the girl who at 18 thought she wanted to leave her small town & never look back

I’m the girl who until a few months ago thought that getting your nails done each month was a waste of money

I’m the girl who would do anything for her friends at the drop of a dime

I’m the girl who used to lick salt blocks in the horse pasture just because they were there

I’m the girl who is sometimes too sarcastic for her own good

I’m the girl who hyperventilated at her first Backstreet Boys concert

I’m the girl who loves to drive…usually alone

I’m the girl who once asked her parents to put a pet door on the freezer so she could have a pet penguin

I’m the girl who used to share baseball caps with her dog

I’m the girl who decided to move to Texas so she could start over fresh

I’m the girl who left Houston because she felt there was no reason left to stay…and to be 4 hours closer to Oklahoma

I’m the girl who gives too many chances because she believes deep down most people are good

I’m the girl who will cut people off with no notice when she believes that good no longer exists

I’m the girl who doesn’t talk about her feelings as often as she should because it makes her feel whiney & vulnerable

I’m the girl who will cry at a commercial, tv show, movie, song in 2 seconds flat but has a harder time crying over real life situations

I’m the girl who is daddy’s little girl & mama’s best friend

I’m the girl who will always take her brother’s side

I’m the girl who runs away from places when things don’t go her way

I’m the girl who is stubborn and hard headed

I’m the girl who already knows her wedding song (Eric Church “You Make It Look So Easy) because it describes her perfectly

I’m the girl who thinks about names for future kids

I’m the girl torn between settling down & living life

I’m the girl who feels guilty for quitting things even if those things make her unhappy

I’m the girl who feels the need to be perfect

I’m the girl who loves a challenge

I’m the girl that has been drinking coffee with her dad since elementary/middle school

I’m the girl that wants to see the world

I’m the girl your mama warned you about (Just kidding parents love me)

I’m the girl who can drop sassy/funny/witty one liners with the best of them

I’m the girl who thinks she’s a hard ass

I’m the girl that wants to be taken care of sometimes all the while having it known that she can do it herself

I’m the girl who is good at being independent

I’m the girl who wanted to join the Air Force so she could be a part of something bigger than herself

I’m the girl who didn’t really start being a girly girl until she was 24-25

I’m the girl who almost changed her major in college to travel & tourism with a year to go

I’m the girl who almost didn’t major in education at all but criminology instead

I’m the girl who loves being involved in things that require planning, organizing, and people

I’m the girl that wanted to be a teacher simply because she loved school & being in charge

I’m the girl who has been accused of being a walking jukebox

I’m the girl who can two step & get down to hip hop all in the same night

I’m the girl who at 27 still can’t figure out how to properly put on make up

I’m the girl who loves bacon more than life itself

I’m the girl that hated whiskey from 17-23 because an ex-boyfriend’s friend made her drink too strong

I’m the girl that only started drinking whiskey again because the week of college graduation a friend poured it in my drink to prove it wasn’t all that bad

I’m the girl that can be a bit judgmental when it comes to music

I’m the girl that loved her job at Gander Mountain more than any other job she’s ever had

I’m the girl that will try almost anything once

I’m the girl who doesn’t always know how to say sorry

I’m the girl that hated her name until she was 15-16 because no one could ever get it right

I’m the girl that loves looking at old photos & being reminded of endless stories/memories

I’m the girl that used to be obsessed with old muscle cars

I’m the girl who has issues in asking for help/taking handouts from others

I’m the girl who did more outrageous things once she was in the “real world” than she did in school

I’m the girl whose mother once gave her mittens attached with string because once night she had lost one in the snow after a night of drinking

I’m the girl who loves to cook for others

I’m the girl who does little things for people just because she cares

I’m the girl who loves surprises

I’m the girl who can be super impatient

I’m the girl torn between responsibility & living life to the fullest
