My First Weekend As A 29 Year Old

Friday

Friday we had an early release day because of homecoming.  Of the 4 high schools in the school district that I work in, ours is the only one that does a homecoming parade, & it's a big deal.  All of our classes were shortened so we pretty much just watched parts of movies in my classes.  At 2 the students got out of school & then it was time to get ready for the parade.  The theme was EagleCon.  One of our awesome varsity moms got everyone masks and capes to wear for the parade.  

I also got my first homecoming mum.  I'm not from Texas, & didn't move here until I was an adult, so I had no idea about this homecoming mum tradition until my first year of teaching.  If you're not from Texas there's a solid chance you have no idea what I'm talking about.  If you don't, please see here for how elaborate these things get.  One of the varsity girls brought me one during my last class.

The varsity girls had a practice/warm-up game for playoffs.  We originally had no games scheduled since our regular season ended on the 24th, but with playoffs starting this week we found a team to play.  We went 5 matches for the first time all season.  We won in 3 out of 5 though.  It was freezing cold outside so I didn't stay for the homecoming football game afterwards.  Instead I went home & watched It's Always Sunny until bedtime.

Saturday

I did absolutely nothing during the day on Saturday.  Nash & I laid around & napped on the couch pretty much all day.  That evening I went out with some friends for Halloween.  Raeann & I dressed up as "basic bitches."  Costume idea courtesy of Steph.  Helen, Caleb, & Ben dressed as Pam, Jim, & Dwight from The Office and Andy dressed up, unfortunately not as Andy from The Office, but as Hopper from Stranger Things.  We all went out in Deep Ellum.  

For supper we went to Bucky Moonshine's.  The food was INCREDIBLE!  I got shrimp and grits.  Holy goodness I wish I still had some.  We also all shared an order of fried pickles, calamari, & boudin balls.  I was in the bathroom while drinks were ordered & the one I wanted was...out?  I don't know but the waitress apparently suggested something else because she "invented half the menu."  Well she didn't tell them what was in it & the main thing was pineapple juice, I hate all things pineapple.  So Caleb & I traded drinks.  I then wound up with a Siberian Mule & a bloody mary.  The mule was good, the bloddy was meh.  The service was HORRIBLE.  The food however was so friggin good that I would give them another shot.  We then hopped from bar to bar.

Sunday
Should have taken pictures, didn't take pictures.  Nash & I just hung out inside most of the day, although it did finally turn out to be a gorgeous day.  I made spaghetti squash & meatballs in the crockpot, baked some sausage in the oven for breakfasts this week, baked some muffins, & did a couple loads of dishes.  I didn't manage to do any laundry though.  I watched a ton of It's Always Sunny.  I tried watching game 5.  I made it through the first few innings but that was it.  I was about ready to pass out before 9 pm.  I'm both sad & glad that I didn't stay up for it.  When I went to bed I definitely thought it was over for the Astros.  I then woke up to see they went into extra innings & pulled it off.
