Just A Key In The Dumpster

It's funny, the different people that come into your life over time.  The ones that stay.  The ones that leave.  The ones you didn't know you needed.  The ones you thought you did.

The people that you never expected to come into your life.  The ones that you thought might just be a brief or casual encounter but wound up sticking around.  The ones that you met just by chance or circumstance but wound up becoming a big part of your whole life.  The ones that you didn't know you needed but now can't remember what life was ever like before them.

But then there are the people that you thought would stay.  The ones that instantly meant the world to you.  The ones that you didn't want to know what life would be like without them.  The ones that you never thought you would have to know what life would be like without them.  The ones you shared the good, the bad, & the ugly with.  The ones that started out as everything but ended up as nothing more than a key in the dumpster.

There are no guarantees in life.  Whether romantic or platonic, people come and go.  There are no promises of forever.  The random girl you sit by one day in college who you thought might just be another person you stop talking to at the end of the semester might become one of your best friends.  The guy you fall in love with & think you're going to spend forever with might end up as just another person that you once knew and never speak to again.

When you meet someone you can't be sure who is going to stay & who is going to leave.  Everyone serves a purpose in your life, even if it's just a stranger making the guy next to you at a concert feel guilty enough to buy you and your friend new drinks because he spilled part of yours.  Enjoy every moment with the people that come into your life.  Enjoy the good.  Enjoy the bad.  Even enjoy the really ugly.  In the end you might end up with a great friend, a great lesson, or just a great story.  But everyone impacts the person you are & who you are becoming.  So make the most of it.

  1. I love this, friend! It's so true. I've met some of my closest friends in some strange ways and would have never expected to be the kind of friends we are at first!
