Good Beers & Goodbyes

Can we all just petition for 3 day weekends already?  I love going out & doing things on the weekend, but when I do I feel like by Sunday when I need to get stuff done I don't want to get anything done & then waste a lot of the day & don't feel prepared for the work week.  On the bright side, because it's opening week of baseball, I get to wear jeans every day this week so that saves my wardrobe planning.  Plus, I would rather wear jeans any day of the week than dress clothes.  Linking up with Biana to recap my weekend!  Hope y'all have a terrific week!

Friday
After work on Friday I went to happy hour with a coworker.  Now, for those of you that read my post the other day, you're probably thinking "but I thought you were on a spending freeze?!"  Well you're right, I am.  And you're also right, that isn't something that was an exception.  But I'm going to justify it.  I made an exception for Thursdays after class & I did not go to class on Thursday meaning I didn't eat before hand or after hand.  In short, I spent way less at happy hour than I would have had I gone to class.  After happy hour I ran home quick to change & then left again to go meet some friends.  I went to play on a kickball team with Helen, Caleb, & some others as a sub.  I can't say I have awesome kickball skills but I did score once & we did win.  We hung out afterwards watching the game after us & then at a bar.  I know I know!  But we split 2 pitchers of PBR between 4 of us...so again even with that added in way less than I would've spent on Thursday.  They all went to another bar afterwards but I had to get up early on Saturday so I went home & immediately to bed.

Saturday
My alarm was set for 4:30.  Way too early.  I didn't even change out of my pjs before I left.  I had to go pick up a friend & bring them to the airport at 5:30.  As soon as I dropped him off I went home & went back to bed until 8:30.  My alarm went off again then & I woke up to take a shower, pack a bag, & head out the door again.  I met up with the best friend, one of his friends, & his friend's girlfriend in Dallas for the Big Texas Beer Festival.  I had plans of being such an awesome blogger & instagramer for this event.  All I have to say to that is "HA!"  I suck at taking pictures these days.  Also, when you start taking sample after sample of beer, the alcohol starts to hit you.  Especially when you started drinking before the event...  My bad.

I met up with the other 3 at their hotel & then we all hung out for a bit before going to Off The Bone BBQ for lunch.  So that place is pretty highly rated as far as BBQ goes in Dallas.  Here's what I'm going to say...I think I'm getting extremely picky when it comes to BBQ.  It was good, there is no doubt about that.  However, I didn't think it was AWESOME & I didn't love the potato salad or mac & cheese at all.  After lunch we all went back to the hotel so I could get my car, the best friend & I could drive to my hotel, & he could bring me back in his car.  We had some time to kill before the beer fest started but not a ton so we found a bar near Fair Park.  We wound up going to Craft & Growler & sharing a super flight.  It had a really cool vibe to it & a ton of different beers to choose from.  I would definitely go back if I was in the area again.  After we finished our flight we walked across the street to the beer fest.  I know I tried 9 different beers, but unlike I originally planned, I couldn't tell you what the 9 were nor do I have pictures of them.  All I remember is that I had one from Saint Arnold's & a Not Your Mom's Raspberry Rhubarb pie beer.  The rest I don't recall.  I was having too much fun & drinking enough that I didn't care to take pictures/notes of everything.  The best friend & I split some cajun fries from Rockin Rick's food truck.  They were awesome!

When we left the festival we walked back across the street to Craft & Growler so the best friend could get a glass.  We headed down to Deep Ellum.  We tried to eat at Cane Rosso but there was an hour wait & we were all really hungry so we went to Deep Ellum Brewing & had pizza there.  We wound up at The Parlor & had a drink there.  Between having not really slept the night before, having a busy day, & drinking lots of beer I was getting tired just sitting there & the best friend was getting antsy.  His friend & his girlfriend liked the bar we were at so they decided to stay there & the best friend & I headed to a bar right by their hotel.  We lasted a drink, well I had water & he had a beer before calling it quits for the night.  My hotel had color changing hue lighting that had me cracking up.  While kind of cool it seemed a little bit cheesy & creepy in a hotel that already looked kind of ghetto from the outside.  Don't get me wrong the inside was all updated but it still seemed strange.

Sunday
Sunday was such a long day & also went by far too quickly.  That morning the 4 of us met up again for breakfast at IHOP & then we all went our separate ways.  That was the last time I'm going to see the best friend for I honestly don't know how long.  Even when he is home we now live hours apart & not only do we both have differing things going on for the next few weeks, he's leaving again sometime soon.  I went home & slept for like an hour & a half.  I then started to work on my case study for grad school.  Y'all I'm over it.  So over it.  Luckily it's the rough draft that's due Thursday but I'm getting nowhere.  I finished up a couple of the sections & am going to keep working on it the rest of the week but it's killing me because I care that little.  I even like the topic, I picked it, but the whole case study, doing nothing but massive research papers, just done.  I know I've complained about that already, & sorry but I'm sure it won't be the last time.

I also talked to my mama on the phone for awhile about school, boys, & when I'd be coming home this summer.  Is it summer yet?  I can't really make any official summer plans until I know where I'll be teaching next year.  I'm really hoping that they decide to keep me & the other 2 girls that started at the beginning of this semester with me.  They haven't posted any of our jobs yet but that also doesn't necessarily mean anything.  I assume that I'll know by the end of this month if I'll be back or not because if I remember correctly contracts have always gone out in April in the other districts that I've worked in.  I text the second guy I went out with last Friday, who I was supposed to go out with again on Tuesday.  I told him that I just wasn't in a place where I wanted to or should be dating right now & that I was really sorry but I wanted to be honest with him & not waste his time or wind up hurting him because of where I'm at in life right now as far as my love life.  He was understanding about it & thanked me for being upfront with him.

I sort of went grocery shopping.  Enough to get me through breakfast & lunch.  I'll have to go back to get more stuff at some point this week but I knew I wasn't going to cook that night anyway & almost didn't even go to the store at all I was so tired.  I still managed to stay up until after 10...probably because I made coffee way too late in the day so I could work on my case study.

  3. St. Arnold has a raspberry beer for spring and it's pink! I don't like beer much but I was able to drink half of one. If you haven't tried it yet, be on the lookout! I would love more three day weekends... at least one a month would be awesome!

  6. You're a good friend to get up that early! Also, we have a lot in common. I grew up in Iowa and moved to TX in my 20's. I live in the Denton area...not far from Arlington.

  8. I hope that they choose you to stay at the job. Some companies let employees work four longer days and have three days off, I think it should be a standard.
