First & foremost, today is the 16th anniversary of 9/11. It blows my mind that my freshman weren't even born yet & even my seniors were only a year or 2 old at the time & yet I can remember that day like it was just yesterday. When I first started teaching I showed 9/11 stuff in all of my classes on this day. Even during my first year though my students had been 6 or 7 when it happened. I don't show coverage all day anymore & haven't since my 2nd or 3rd year mostly because my students were getting younger & younger, especially once I switched to freshmen my 4th year, & they didn't really remember the day. I won't be this year either because a)my students either weren't born yet or were way too young to remember & b)my freshmen have a test tomorrow & my seniors are starting a project. They'll get a little bit about it when we watch student news but that will be it. It always makes me wonder though, when will even the media stop mentioning it? I mean Pearl Harbor Day is still a day, but the majority of Americans don't stop & pause on that day to mention it or even remember it. As someone who used to sit & watch the news all day on this day while in college, & tried to do the same my first few years of teaching, I hope it's not anytime soon, but at what point does an event like this stop being something that's talked about every year?
“One of the worst days in America’s history saw some of the bravest acts in Americans’ history. We’ll always honor the heroes of 9/11. And here at this hallowed place, we pledge that we will never forget their sacrifice.”
On with the weekend! Linking up with Biana.
Friday
Friday I got home relatively early considering it was a game day. However, it was home & we blew the other team out of the water so it was over quickly. The didn't even have a B team for their freshmen so we didn't play, but the other teams killed it. I was so grateful that it was an early night because Saturday morning I had to wake up really early. Also, no pics because the only ones I took were of my volleyball girls & my seniors who played a supply & demand game.
Saturday
Again with no pictures because I spent THE ENTIRE day at a volleyball tournament. I woke up at 4 am, left at 5:15 to head to work, & then was at a volleyball tournament from 7 until about 4:30. My team got 15th out of 16 & I definitely lost it before our final game. My girls are so much better than they played. There was no reason they should have gotten 15th place. They lost to the first 3 teams they played, I lost it on them, & then they beat the last team they played. Apparently I should have lost it sooner. At least the team we beat is one that is actually in our district so now we know we can beat them the two times we play them later on in the season. That evening when I got home I just cuddled with Nash all night & watched The Office since he had been alone all day. I passed out while watching TV around 9 pm. Oh! I got a Firestick! I'm in love...
Sunday
I figured I'd sleep until about 7, take Nash to the dog park, run into Fort Worth to pick up a prescription, & then watch football all day. Instead I woke up around 5 am. So we chilled until about 7. I figured we'd go to the dog park then but I started getting a headache. I made a trip to Walmart to get some food for the day & a new coffee maker since mine somehow died while I was in Minnesota. As the morning progressed my headache got worse & worse so we never made it to the dog park. I slept during the entire Redskins/Eagles game. I woke up just in time for the Packers/Seahawks game which was a bit of a disappointment. We did make it to the dog park for a bit so Nash could run around for a bit since we laid around all day. He's such a good football buddy. He caught on really quickly that on Sundays we nap & lounge around. However, because I laid around most of the day... I stayed up way too late so that I could make a review game for my students & type up this post.
I bet Nash is the BEST football buddy!! I hope you have a GREAT week!!
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that Sunday wasn't exactly as planned but glad you got to watch football! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston
ReplyDeleteI too find it interesting that their are so many people who don't know anything about 9/11. Today will always be a somber day for me. I can vividly recall everything that happened that day.
ReplyDeleteIm not even american and I remember exactly what I was doing, and i remember watching CNN and seeing the second plane impact. Terrorism didnt even come to mind immediately, I thought something was going on with the air traffic controls or something. Its crazy that its now 16 years ago. Crazy.
